Parasite Control

Parasite control is an important part of your pet’s health care. In the Pacific Northwest, fleas can live year round; not only can they cause itching for your pets and your family, but fleas are also the primary source for tapeworms. Staying on a monthly flea preventative can prevent the inconvenience and expense of trying to control a flea infestation once it takes hold.

Good parasite control will also protect your pets against intestinal parasites that can cause many health issues including weight loss, diarrhea, and vomiting. Some of those parasites can even infect you and your family. The old saying is that “Sharing is Caring”, but we think this may be an exception to the rule!

Heartworm is now on the rise in our area, and we do recommend heartworm protection. While dogs are most susceptible to heartworm, cats have been known to become infected as well. Since it is spread by mosquitos, even pets that are usually indoors can contract heartworm when there are mosquitos around. Treating heartworm is expensive, and left untreated, it can be fatal.
